DuPont Enables Future Mobility

A wide array of innovations at Chinaplas 2019 aims to meet industry challenges

GUANGZHOU, CHINA, MAY 20, 2019 – DuPont Transportation & Industrial (T&I), a business unit of DowDuPont Specialty Products Division, showcases integrated solutions of its AHEAD (Accelerating Hybrid-Electric Autonomous Driving) initiative at Chinaplas 2019. AHEAD leverages portfolios of several DuPont businesses to create a singular and comprehensive offering of technology and materials solutions to the electric vehicles (EV) and autonomous driving markets and related infrastructure.

“The new DuPont is able to offer a complete range of solutions across the entire transportation value chain. Combining DuPont’s rich application experience and cross-functional expertise in automotive materials, AHEAD provides differentiated, one-stop solutions to automobile manufacturers and component suppliers,” said Jeroen Bloemhard, Global Vice President for Performance Materials, DuPont Transportation & Industrial.

Thermal Management Solutions Solve Efficiency Challenges

In electric vehicles, electronic parts work in high-temperature environments, especially high-voltage batteries, traction motors and ultra-fast charging which pose greater thermal management challenges.

Cooling pipe made of DuPontZytel® PA612 LCPA long-chain polyamides provides an excellent combination of flexibility, light weight, strength, and hydrolytic and automotive fluid resistance in comparison to rubber cooling hoses. Zytel® PA612 LCPA is used by Chinaust Group, a leading fluid management solutions provider, for the manufacturing of driving systems cooling pipe. This cooling system is fitted into the Electric SUV of Weltmeister Motors, a new energy vehicle and transportation solution provider established in 2015 in China.

Lightweight Solutions Enable Outstanding Driving Experience

Fuel cell vehicles are an emerging new energy technology with huge growth potential globally. Innovative lightweighting solutions could contribute to total cost savings and a longer driving range.

Zytel® HTN high-performance polyamide resins are used in the fuel cell power train of Hyundai NEXO including its stack and thermal management systems. Zytel® HTN can be injection molded into complex designs. It also can be laser welded to simplify the assembly process, reduce total cost and weight, and improve durability and reliability.

With stricter CO2 emission regulations worldwide, downsized turbo engines are more popular in Hybrid Electric Vehicles. They need to be more compact and light-weight.

DuPont Hytrel® HTR8808 is a high heat resistance improved TPC-ET which offers integrated blow moulding automotive air duct solutions in the 150-160°C temperature range for sustained operation, and up to 180°C for short-term operation, to improve power efficiency. It enables flexible-rigid-flexible air duct construction for weight saving and cost saving.
